BACKUPS, BACKUPS, BACKUPS There's probably no place where Murphy's Law is more in evidence that when it comes to data backups. Drives will fail, and will do at the worst possible time. What's our rule of thumb? At a minimum have a drive large enough to backup your ENTIRE system hard drive. It should be a bootable firewire drive and you should use a backup program to create a clone of your internal hard drive. Our two favorites: Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper. How often should you backup? the nswer to that question is based on how much data can you afford to lose. If losing everything you have done on your system over the past month or more is an acceptable risk, then by all means back up once a month. But if the thought of losing even a day's worth of work is enough to give you ulcers and keep you up nights in distress, then you REALLY need to consider an automated backup system -- something the MacClinc can help you implement.
